Q: Do you have any hidden talents or skills outside of dentistry? In undergrad, I discovered that I had a talent for pumpkin carving. I had never carved a pumpkin and took on my first design of two horses and was pleasantly surprised with how it turned out. Almost every year since, I have challenged myself to more intricate designs including movie characters such Lady & the Tramp, Captain America, Simba, and personal characters such as my own dog.

Q: Are you more of a morning person or a night owl? Definitely a morning person! My friends tease me about being the “grandma” of the group because I enjoy being in bed by 10 PM at the latest.

Do you have a favorite hobby or activity you enjoy on weekends? I enjoy being outdoors. I grew up riding horses since the age of 7 and was always on a horse in my free time. Now that I currently do not have horses, I enjoy checking out new hiking spots with my dog, Luna.

Q: What’s your most memorable travel experience? When I was younger, my family and I took a 3-week road trip out to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. We spent a week driving there, a week in Jackson Hole, and a week driving back. We got to experience every national landmark there was to see including the Grand Canyon, Mount Rushmore, Garden of the Gods, and many more. I would love to road trip out west again now that I am older and revisit some of these sites.

Q: What’s your favorite season, and why? Fall is my favorite season. Growing up in Florida, I never got to experience fall so during my first year in Kentucky, when the leaves of the trees started changing colors I was amazed. I like the cooler temperatures that accompany that time of year before it gets too chilly out.

Dr. Rachel Scaglione grew up in the small town of Brooksville, Florida. She received her Associate of Arts degree from Pasco Hernando State College while still in high school and two bachelor’s degrees from the University of Central Florida, a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She completed her nursing preceptorship in acute hospital care on a telemetry unit at Parrish Medical Center in Titusville, Florida during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. After this, she continued her education at the University of Louisville to earn her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree. Not finding the right place to call home in Kentucky but not wanting to return as far down south as Florida, Dr. Scaglione found the perfect place to call home in Anderson, SC, which she feels has the best characteristics of both Kentucky and Florida combined.

In her free time, Dr. Scaglione enjoys spending her time outdoors. She began horseback riding lessons at the age of 7. She has shown competitively in every discipline from gaited horses to hunter jumpers to western trail. She quickly took to working with “problem” horses, helping to rehabilitate them with trauma in their past and teaching them to trust humans again. Now, she enjoys spending her time outdoors hiking with her rescue dog, Luna. A couple of her favorite places to hike include Brown County State Park, Blood Mountain, and Red River Gorge. She and Luna are looking forward to checking out popular hiking spots around the Carolinas soon.

With her background in nursing, Dr. Scaglione appreciates health beyond the oral cavity and strongly endorses a fully healthy patient. As a general dentist for Family Dental Health, she enjoys offering dental services to the local community including comprehensive dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, and emergency needs.
