Fun Facts with Dr. Black

Q: When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? I have wanted to be a dentist since I was 8 years old!! My grandmother was a dental hygienist, and she inspired me to pursue dentistry!

Q: Cats or dogs? Dogs, of course! My four-legged baby is an 8 year-old German Shepherd named Ruger!

Q: What is something that people might not know about you? I lived and studied abroad in Australia for 6 months, and my choir sang for Pope Benedict XVI. 

Q: What’s your idea of a perfect vacation? Somewhere warm by the water with my husband, Charlie! 

Q: How do you feel about putting pineapple on pizza? Keep that pineapple off my pizza!!

Dr. Black's Story

Alexa Black was born and raised in Columbia, South Carolina.  She attended Hammond School where she was involved in all aspects of campus and began dating her high school sweetheart, Charlie, who she married in January 2021.  After high school, Dr. Black attended Clemson University’s Calhoun Honors College where she received her degree in Biochemistry in 2018 and graduated Magna Cum Laude.  Most of her free time at Clemson was spent spending time with friends, volunteering, participating in the Pre-Dental Club, and cheering on the Tigers.
Dr. Black began dental school at the Medical University of South Carolina in 2018. She was very involved at MUSC’s College of Dental Medicine where she worked for the Dean of Academic and Student Affairs and was a member of the American Student Dental Association (ASDA), Dental Community Fellowship, and the Academy of General Dentistry.  Dr. Black received the International College of Dentists Leadership Award, and the MUSC Oral Medicine Award upon graduation.
Dr. Black is excited to serve patients in her hometown where she lives with her husband, Charlie, and dog, Ruger. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, and spending time with her family and friends.  Dr. Black is a member of the American Dental Association, South Carolina Dental Association, the Greater Columbia Dental Association, the Columbia Implant Association, and the South Carolina Academy of Implant Studies. Dr. Black focuses on comprehensive treatment and enjoys working on smile design.
