Q: When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I always wanted to be a dentist.

Q: What’s your most memorable travel experience?
Celebrating Father’s Day in Poland in 2022 with my family. We had a wonderful family dinner outside on a gorgeous summer evening in a picturesque square, with live music playing nearby.

Q: Do you have a favorite hobby or activity you enjoy?
I am an excellent cook and enjoy growing my own vegetables.

Dr. Steve Klinar grew up all over the place as an Army brat, finally settling in Irmo, South Carolina, in the seventh grade. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Virginia Military Institute (class of 1980) and a Doctor of Dental Medicine from the Medical University of South Carolina (class of 1987).

After living in various places, including Germany and Hawaii, Dr. Klinar graduated from Irmo High School. Following in his father’s footsteps, he attended VMI and then dental school. At Irmo and VMI, he played football. He also played rugby for eight years through college and dental school and continued playing afterward with the Columbia Rugby Club. He served as captain of the VMI Rugby Club.

As a dentist, Dr. Klinar focuses on comprehensive care, including the long-term care of patients and their families, many of whom he has cared for across several generations. He has volunteered at the Lexington County Children’s Dental Clinic since 1991. He is a member of the American Dental Association, the South Carolina Dental Association, and the Greater Columbia Dental Association, and he enjoys continuing his dental education alongside his professional colleagues.

Dr. Klinar has been married to his wife, Kristina, since 1999. They have two daughters who are currently pursuing their education. Josie is finishing her master’s degree at the University of Georgia, while Allison is just beginning her journey at Coastal Carolina University. In his free time, Dr. Klinar enjoys traveling, gardening, hiking, cooking, and feeding people.
